THE WYLD THING – yoga and pilates in one

„Balance in the body is the foundation for balance in life.“; The WYLD THING

Sometimes I catch myself saying, „I should do more for my body.“

Not out of pressure. Not because of some ideal. But because I want to feel stronger. More upright. More clear-headed. More in touch with myself. And it was during just such a phase that I discovered THE WYLD THING. The name sounded like exactly what I needed right now. To be a little wild. To step a little out of my comfort zone. But with style, please. So I signed up and – of course – drove there. Even though The Wyld Thing in the 9th district is perfectly connected by public transport. But you know me. I’m a bit of a princess. I love getting out of the car right at the door.

Except that it didn’t quite work out that day.

Finding a parking spot was… let’s call it character building. I drove around in circles, negotiated internally with the universe, and finally arrived five minutes before class started. My pulse was slightly elevated, my cool facade minimally tarnished. But perhaps that was exactly the first little reality check that THE WYLD THING wanted to give me.

Arrival

between old building & expectation

THE WYLD THING is located on the first floor of a classic Viennese apartment building. High ceilings, that typical stairwell feeling that instantly feels familiar. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect. Would it be esoteric? Super sporty? A bit too cool? As soon as I opened the door, it was clear: the wyld thing is clean, yet warm. Minimalist, but not unapproachable. White, natural tones, a touch of boho – exactly that balance that feels modern but not cold.

I think I was the last one there. The room was already full. All the girls were already sitting on their mats, calm, focused. And me? I stood there for a moment like a startled deer, quickly grabbed a mat (yes, you have to borrow one or bring your own), and tried to blend in gracefully.

That little feeling of being „too late, too loud, too hectic“ – you know that feeling? And then you sit down. Breathe. And suddenly it becomes quiet.

The hour at The Wyld Thing

– fluid, powerful, surprisingly intense

The class at THE WYLD THING was a combination of yoga and Pilates. And I absolutely love that.

It started calmly. Breathing. Mobilization. That gentle arrival in my body. I immediately felt the stress from the parking lot slowly melting away. Then it got more intense. Many exercises strongly reminded me of Reformer Pilates—only without the equipment. Small, controlled movements. Holding. Pulsating impulses. That trembling that slowly spreads from my thighs to my soul. I had to laugh inside because I realized: I’m getting fitter. Really.

I would have given up on some sequences before. Now I stay. Breathe. Hold longer. That’s exactly what THE WYLD THING showed me—progress doesn’t always feel spectacular. Sometimes it’s simply about not giving up.

At the same time, I realized that I absolutely have to stretch more. While some people seem to float weightlessly into their poses, I think to myself: Vanessa, right now you look more like a clumsy panda with ambitions. But you know what? That was exactly what was okay. At THE WYLD THING, I never felt like I was being watched or judged. Everyone was in their own bubble. In their own process. And I liked that.

Juma, energy &

this little fashion drama

The class was led by Juma. Calm, clear, present. No over-the-top motivation, no artificial pushing. Just that quiet authority that makes you automatically listen. She corrected, but respectfully. She guided, but without pressure. And that energy is exactly what THE WYLD THING is all about.

And then – of course – her outfit.

An off-the-shoulder, long-sleeved sports shirt. And I swear to you: I wanted to buy that exact shirt at H&M the day before. I held it in my hand. I tried it on. And then I decided on a black wrap top after all. So, while I was making my core muscles tremble at the wyld thing, my inner fashion movie was playing in parallel: „Why didn’t you get the white one?“ Shopping Queen is Shopping Queen. Maybe a Pilates outfit post will actually come soon. Because let’s be honest – when you feel good in your outfit, you enjoy working out twice as much.

Body awareness & routine

– what triggered the wyld thing in me

What really surprised me about THE WYLD THING wasn’t just the intensity of the class. It was the feeling afterward. I drove home (this time with luck finding a parking spot) and felt more upright. More clear-headed. It’s that subtle feeling when you realize: My body is working for me. Not against me. Pilates gives me exactly that. And THE WYLD THING amplifies that feeling even more because it’s not just about muscles. It’s about connection.

I realized how important routine is for me. Not this „performing perfectly every day.“ But this recurring return. To the mat. To myself.

In a city like Vienna, where I’m constantly on the go – events, restaurants, meetings, everyday life – an hour at THE WYLD. THING is almost like a little anchor. A reminder that strength doesn’t have to be loud. That elegance doesn’t mean perfection. That progress sometimes simply means: you’re there.

What the wyld thing stands for

– more than just a studio

I think THE WYLD THING embodies this modern body awareness. Not extreme. Not dogmatic.

It’s not about bending over backwards. It’s about getting to know yourself. The „wyld“ in the name doesn’t feel chaotic to me. It feels honest. Untamed in the sense that you’re allowed to be you. With your strong days and your panda moments. The community at THE WYLD THING felt open. No competitive vibes. No condescending looks. A room full of women simply training for themselves. And I love that.

And what I found particularly beautiful: THE WYLD THING isn’t just about that one perfect moment on the mat, but about a long-term feeling. About this gentle yet consistent work on yourself. About discipline without strictness. About strength without harshness.

You can tell that it’s not just about putting in hours, but that there’s a real concept behind it. A space that has been consciously designed. An atmosphere that supports you. For me, the wyld thing feels like a modern safe space – somewhere between self-care, beads of sweat, and self-reflection.

my summary

– honest, strong & perfect for beginners

So, if I had to summarize it for you—like I did for a friend— THE WYLD THING in the 9th district is a studio with character. With style. With a clear energy. The class was challenging, but accessible. Intense, but not intimidating. And that’s exactly why I think THE WYLD THING is especially great for beginners. You’re met where you are. You’re guided. You’re allowed to grow.

I didn’t leave as a perfect Pilates goddess. More like a slightly shaky panda with a newfound body awareness. But that’s exactly what feels authentic. And maybe that’s the best thing about THE WYLD THING: You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to start.

What I also took away from it was this feeling of „I can do this.“ Not in a loud, arrogant way. But quietly. Steady. I felt that my body is capable of more than I sometimes give it credit for. That routine is stronger than motivation. And that an hour like this is a small luxury in everyday life—one that has nothing to do with champagne, but with time for yourself. It’s precisely this kind of tangible luxury that I love.
