Minigolf Stroke – the cute way to be sporty

„My golf score seems to improve considerably when I write it down myself!“; MiniGolf Stroke

I have to admit: When I used to think of minigolf, these images immediately came to mind. Old courses, a bit of peeling paint here and there, everything looking a little dated, and mostly just trying to shoot straight through as best you can. Nice for a Sunday afternoon, maybe, but not exactly something that makes you think: Wow, I absolutely have to play that. And then suddenly there are places that present a completely new version of something. One that feels more modern. Cooler. Somehow more stylish. That’s exactly how I felt recently at Stroke Vienna.

Because no – this isn’t the classic minigolf we all remember from our childhoods. This feels more like golf. Just on a smaller scale. And suddenly, you kind of understand the vibe. Golf is still considered somewhat elitist. As this elegant sport where people in gorgeous outfits walk across perfectly manicured greens, drive small carts, and look like they have absolutely no stress in their lives.

Honestly? I completely romanticize it. I imagine golf as incredibly cool. Those outfits. That relaxed atmosphere. The feeling of summer luxury. And maybe someday even me in a white tennis or golf skirt with a perfectly styled ponytail and a little golf cart somewhere in the sunshine. Until then, Stroke is probably the small, realistic sister of my fantasy.

Like a real golf course

– only in miniature

The first thing that surprised me about Stroke Vienna was how beautiful the facility looks. Seriously.

You arrive and don’t feel like you’re at just any old leisure activity, but rather like you’re on a small golf course. Everything seems well-designed, modern, and well-maintained. It’s exactly the kind of place where you think: Okay, wow, I honestly wouldn’t have expected this in Vienna. And even though it’s minigolf, everything feels significantly more upscale. Not tacky. Not old-fashioned. But almost a bit sophisticated.

The court is outdoors, which is especially lovely in summer. But I have a tip: go in the morning.

We deliberately chose to do this. Since our little heat shock in Jesolo last year – when the sun decided to completely destroy us – I’ve become cautious about summer activities. That’s why we opted for an early time slot, and I highly recommend it. Because believe me: in the blazing midday sun, you’d probably end up playing against the sun instead of your partner.

The QR code moment

– somehow futuristic

What I also found really cool about Stroke: Everything is super straightforward.

You simply book a time slot online for when you want to go. No complicated phone calls. No chaos. No waiting. Then you receive a QR code, and that’s basically where the experience begins. At the entrance, you scan the code, go through the turnstile, and somehow it all feels instantly modern. Almost like you’re about to go to some exclusive sports club. Only more relaxed. And without a membership.

I love little details like that because they immediately give you the feeling that someone has put thought into it.

Right by the entrance, there’s a small area where you can borrow clubs and balls. And now for something I found surprisingly cute: You could even see which club would actually suit you. Of course, we took it half-seriously at first and then just tried it out. Because let’s be honest – sometimes you just have to try things out. And that’s exactly what makes minigolf so much fun.

Minigolf in Vienna

– but please like Wii Sports

As soon as we started, something immediately came to mind. Do you remember that golf game from Wii Sports? Please tell me I’m not alone. That’s exactly how I felt. Those little hills. The shots. That slight sense of competition. Only this time, not in front of the TV, but right in the middle of Vienna.

Of course, the grass isn’t real, and the little dips and sand patches are artificial. So, no real golf course with real grass. But honestly? That doesn’t matter at all. Actually, I even liked it. It’s easier to maintain, still looks nice, and works perfectly for this kind of minigolf. Above all, it makes everything feel clean and tidy. Nothing looks overgrown or neglected. Exactly the mix of sporty and aesthetic that I love. And although I would never claim to be particularly talented, it was surprisingly fun.

There are couples who take things easy. And then there’s us. My husband and I are both incredibly competitive, unfortunately. It’s really bad. Whether it’s card games, sports, escape rooms, or even minigolf in Vienna – we both want to win. Always. There’s no romantic „Oh honey, as long as we have fun“ attitude between us. No. We have more of a subtle energy of „I love you very much, but I’m still going to beat you.“ Completely loving, of course. But we push each other incredibly hard.

If one of us makes a good shot, the other immediately wants to be even better. If one of us messes up, we have a quick laugh and then immediately motivate each other to keep going. I think that’s exactly why we got through the course relatively quickly. Because while others stroll along at a leisurely pace, we analyze every hole like professional athletes.

Everything relaxed,

everything harmonious

What I found particularly pleasant was the atmosphere. Of course, there were other groups there. People were playing in front of and behind us, yet everything was totally relaxed. No one was pushing or shoving. No one was stressing. You simply wait respectfully until the other group has finished their hole and then move on. Leisure time can be so uncomplicated.

Especially in a city like Vienna, where everything sometimes seems a bit hectic, I found that really refreshing. That feeling of: No one has to rush anywhere. You simply enjoy the moment. And maybe it’s also because Stroke Vienna somehow automatically puts you in a good mood.

In principle, you have an hour, and theoretically, you could play as many times as you like.

But I’ll be honest: after one round, we were exhausted. I think it was about 20 holes—and that’s really more than enough. At least if you play as competitively as we did. Because please don’t underestimate minigolf. You end up walking around more, concentrating more, and suddenly having serious discussions about the best angle to shoot from, as if you had years of golf experience. At some point, you look at each other and just think: Okay, we just put way too much energy into this. But that’s exactly what makes it fun.

Soft luxury

meets summer

And now comes the part I found almost as lovely as the game itself.

After playing, we sat down for a while. There’s a really cute little igloo where you can sit, and a terrace outside. It’s exactly the kind of place where you linger even after you’ve finished. We got something to drink from the vending machine and just relaxed for a bit. These little moments are what I love most these days. When you’re not doing anything big. Nothing spectacular. But you still feel like you’ve had a really nice day.

For me, summer in Vienna doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes all it takes is a cool spot, a bit of sunshine, a drink, and someone you enjoy spending time with. And suddenly, even minigolf feels almost luxurious. Not loudly luxurious. But this quiet, soft luxury. This feeling that life just feels beautiful right now.

Right next door, by the way, is a padel tennis court.

And of course, we sat there, watched people playing, and immediately had those dangerous thoughts. You know how it is. You watch something for ten minutes and suddenly you think: Yes. We could do that too. And that’s exactly what happened.

We sat there with our drinks, watched people, and decided within about five minutes: This is going to be our new hobby. At least in theory. So stay tuned to see if we suddenly become full-blown padel people or if this phase passes as quickly as our short-lived enthusiasm for other sports. But honestly, I can already picture us. Cute sports outfits. Small matches. Aperol afterward. Sounds pretty perfect, actually.

my summary

– minigolf in Vienna, but in a cool way

So if you’re looking for something a little different, but still not completely out of your comfort zone, then I can really recommend Stroke Vienna.

Especially if you’re in the mood for a summer activity that feels a bit special. Not the classic minigolf you remember from childhood. But rather mini-golf with a modern twist. Cool. Aesthetic. Almost like a small golf course right in the heart of Vienna. And maybe that’s exactly why I enjoyed it so much. Because it gives you the feeling of briefly stepping into another little world. One where you suddenly feel a bit like you’re playing golf. A bit like you’re in a summer movie. And a bit like the person you might want to be someday.

Even if the golf cart is still missing.
