“ I know family comes first, but shouldn’t that mean after breakfast?“- Jeff Lindsay; Erich
I don’t know about you, but sometimes life feels like a game of Tetris on hardcore mode – desperately trying to find free slots to finally squeeze in some quality time with your favorite people. That’s how I felt recently, anyway. My best friend and I hadn’t had a proper brunch in what felt like 700 years. And that’s despite the fact that brunch is our shared superpower – somewhere between gossip, good vibes, and trying not to order the entire menu.
When I finally decided, „Okay, Saturday. Us. Brunch.“, I apparently wasn’t the only one who’d had that thought. Almost every restaurant in Vienna was completely booked. I was already picturing myself failing miserably… but then: one last free table at Erich’s. Literally the very last one. If that wasn’t a sign from the brunch universe, then I don’t know what is.
The 7th district without the Erich?
Unthinkable.
Erich and the seventh district – it’s like Aperol and ice cubes. They simply belong together. And not just because it’s geographically located there, but because the vibe is such a perfect match. This mix of modern, urban, and a subtle touch of gold – as if a designer and an artist had thought: „How can we make it feel like you’re in Vienna and, by chance, somewhere in Brooklyn at the same time?“
From the outside, Erich seems almost unassuming, even modest. But as soon as you open the door, you get that wow moment, the one where you immediately think, „Okay, camera out.“ The first thing you see is that beautiful white vaulted ceiling spanning the entrance, followed by the bar, which practically screams, „Take a picture of me!“ And of course, I did. They know me.
The front area is a subtle, carefully curated mix of styles: vaulted ceilings meet gold, art meets classic furniture—and I love that Erich never tries to force anything. It feels harmonious, even though none of it actually needs to be. It’s precisely this nonchalant style that makes Erich so special.
And then comes the second room
– the golden shock (in the best sense)
As you walk further back, the atmosphere changes. Suddenly, you’re in the golden room. And no, I’m not exaggerating. Gold. Truly gold. The walls, the lighting, the wooden ceiling—everything feels like you’ve stepped into a modern interpretation of a royal dining room.
A little funky, a little glamorous, very „I’m-about-to-give-you-a-golden-Instagram-moment.“
The contrast to the front area is surprising, but that’s precisely what makes Erich so special: You feel like you’re experiencing two worlds in one restaurant. And yet, Erich is never too big or too small—just right to have atmosphere without feeling overcrowded and chaotic. Perfect for relaxing, chatting, and, of course, eating.
The fluid balance first
had to be stabilized.
Before we could even think about what to eat, we had to sort out the most important thing, as always: drinks. Food pyramid? We operate according to the brunch pyramid. Cappuccino – absolutely essential.
Mimosas – because, of course, we opted for a little „celebratory cheer in a glass.“ And I have to say: the presentation at Erich’s was a chef’s kiss. Truly fancy. I swear, even the mimosas knew how good they looked. Then, for good measure: a Green Machine. A smoothie that sounds very healthy – pineapple, banana, spinach, apple, ginger, romaine lettuce – but we all know that we’re just fooling ourselves into thinking we’re doing something incredibly beneficial. Anyway, it tasted good. And that’s what matters most.
The menu:
rich’s has that kind of menu that automatically makes you think, „Ugh, this is tough. I want everything.“ And anyone who knows me and my best friend knows that’s usually exactly how it ends. But this time—I don’t know if it was the mimosas or just a brief flash of common sense—we wanted to take it easy.
Spoiler alert: It was still enough to end up completely stuffed.
Breakfast Tacos:
The moment I read the words „Breakfast Tacos,“ I was hooked. I didn’t have to think about it any further. It was an automatic decision. Something inside me immediately screamed, „You want this!“ And what can I say? I was right.
The tacos consisted of a herbed and cheese omelet (just the name alone sounds like a comfort food), bacon, tomato salsa, and guacamole. And this combination? A dream. A truly great start to the day. The texture, the flavor, the portion size—everything was perfect. Erich has simply mastered the art of making breakfast exciting.
The „pretty Erich“:
My best friend opted for the „Schöner Erich“ – and yes, the name is fitting. A brunch platter that truly has it all: ham, cream cheese, a mini açaí bowl, a soft-boiled egg, smoked salmon, bacon, horseradish, chive butter, and a bread roll. It’s the kind of platter where with every bite you think, „Okay, that was the highlight.“ Until the next bite is even better. A little culinary firework display of surprises.
And again: the portions are really generous, but not overwhelming. Value for money? Absolutely fair for Vienna, and especially for the 7th district. Erich delivers quality without making you feel like you need to take out a loan afterward.
Espresso Martini
– Good Morning or Good Night?
And now we come to the part I’d been secretly looking forward to all brunch: the Espresso Martini. For me, it’s an essential part of a good brunch. At Erich’s, they offer two versions:
Good Morning (non-alcoholic) and Good Night (alcoholic).
Let’s be honest: we ordered the Good Night, of course.
I love drinks that not only taste good but also look good. And the Espresso Martini at Erich’s? A real showstopper. The presentation was spot on – elegant, modern, a little mysterious. The taste: robust, balanced, perfectly mixed. I really couldn’t find a single thing to criticize
Why Erich remains a classic for me
As we sat there, chatting about everything under the sun and enjoying our brunch, it struck me again: Erich’s is one of those places that always works. Whether it’s for a date with your best friend, a leisurely brunch, a quick breakfast, or a fancy cocktail evening.
Erich’s has character—one you feel immediately. It’s uncomplicated, yet stylish, relaxed, and at the same time a little edgy. And I love that it doesn’t try to change, but simply stays exactly as it is: a shining star in the 7th district.
my summary
Erich remains a feel-good place
Thinking back on that brunch brings back warm memories – and it’s not just because of the Good Night Espresso Martini. It’s because Erich is exactly the kind of mix you’d want in a perfect brunch spot: Great food, fair prices, beautiful rooms, iconic style, good drinks, and an atmosphere that instantly draws you in.
Erich reminded me once again how important it is to make time for the people who make you feel good – and that there are places where you automatically make that time even more special. I’ll definitely be back. And I’ll probably order breakfast tacos again. And espresso martinis. And maybe an extra sweet treat. Just to be on the safe side.
