Gefrorenes – simplified ice like back then

„I eat ice cream. It´s better than booze.“ – Del Shannon, Gefrorenes

Vienna, 24 degrees Celsius, and I’m once again on the hunt for the perfect spoonful of happiness. This time, my path doesn’t lead me to the typical Instagram ice cream temples with unicorn sprinkles or black waffles – but to a small shop on Servitengasse that quietly calls itself „Gefrorenes.“ And that’s exactly how the whole experience begins: calm, honest, no frills – but with a hell of a lot of flavor.

Minimalism meets taste explosion

As soon as you walk in, you realize someone really had a vision here—not one of glitter and whipped cream, but of pure quality. The counter is clean, everything is understated, the flavors handwritten on a small chalkboard. I love that. No excess, no pressure to order something for the photo. Just you, the ice cream flavors, and your gut feeling.

“ Ice Cream Challenge? „

And this time, for once, my gut feeling led me not to the usual pistachio, but to the cookie flavor. Safe, creamy, with just the right amount of cookie bits and a hint of childhood. Exactly what I needed on a summer day like this. The more unusual flavors like rhubarb-vanilla, cucumber-lemon, or goat’s cheese-honey sounded really exciting, but I’d rather play it safe. Perhaps for a little ice cream challenge with friends? Who’ll be the first to try goat’s cheese?

This is what real ice cream tastes like

If you’re thinking of those artificially sweet, sticky, shiny scoops from the past, forget it. This is ice cream in its most authentic form. You can really taste the ingredients. Everything tastes as if it were just made—and it is. Frozen uses regional ingredients, no additives, no colorings. Just ice cream, as it should be. You can tell a lot of heart and soul went into it. And, somehow, a little pride, too.

Behind the ice cream parlor are two young people who had nothing to do with the restaurant industry before—which is probably why they have such a fresh approach. No traditional Italian gelato school, no exaggerated marketing strategy. Just the idea of making really good ice cream. And you can tell. You feel welcome, get advice, can try things, talk, and laugh. Everything is very laid-back, very approachable.

My summary

A place to linger (or to quickly pick up some happiness)

Servitengasse is one of my favorite places in Vienna anyway—a bit off the beaten track, but full of charm. Frozen food fits perfectly there. A small shop, a few outdoor seating areas, people in sunglasses, dogs begging, and somewhere someone playing the guitar. This is what summer feels like. You can pop in here for a quick drink, grab a cup, and move on—or just stay, observe, and enjoy.

Honestly: If you ever feel like trying something new—or challenging yourself to a little ice cream dare with your friends—then Frozen is the perfect place. Who dares to try the wildest flavor? Message me, I’m in. Cookie was my safe space—but I’m so ready to step out of my comfort zone.

OVERALL Conclusion

– Small, stylish ice cream parlor on Servitengasse with a focus on quality over show
– Homemade ice cream without additives, using regional ingredients
– Classics like cookies meet creative flavors like cucumber-lemon or goat’s cheese
– Perfect for gourmets – or daring groups of friends on an ice cream challenge
