„You glow differently when you start loving yourself.“; Glow-tober

Autumn is here, and honestly, I love it. Finally, cozy evenings again, candles, Netflix, tea, and all those little things that make us feel good. But that’s exactly why now is the time when we can bring more care into our everyday lives. In summer, we often rush from appointment to appointment, wanting to be outside, enjoying the sun, meeting friends. But when it gets cooler outside, the days shorter, and the evenings longer, we automatically have a little more time for ourselves. Time that can be perfectly used to fine-tune small routines that ultimately make a huge difference.
And that’s exactly what I call Glow-tober. A month full of self-care, a month in which you give yourself more love. Believe me: if you start now in October, you’ll have a small but wonderful glow-up by December. And how awesome is that? Radiant skin, shiny hair, and a relaxed you – ready for Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and all the parties in between. Sounds like a plan, right?
I’ve compiled my favorite tricks and secret weapons for you – things that easily fit into everyday life, are fun, and give you back exactly that glow. Call it wellness, self-love, or just care – for me, it’s the perfect little autumn routine.
1. Overnight Curls
– Wake up like this
Okay, I admit: this trend is a bit old. TikTok seems to have played it out and then forgotten about it. But for me, it’s simply a perennial favorite. Overnight curls are the ultimate little hack for glow-tober.
You curl your hair in the evening – whether with those satin ribbons, a curling iron with an „overnight“ feature, or those cute foam things that look almost like retro rollers. Then you sleep like normal (okay, admittedly, the first night is always a little weird, but you get used to it). And in the morning, you wake up with that „I just walked out of a salon“ look.
I swear, this is the epitome of effortless beauty. You literally do nothing but sleep, and the next morning you have a hairstyle that looks like you put in ages of effort. That’s exactly what we all want, right? A no-effort blowout—that screams care in the best sense.
My tip: just try out different methods. Every hair type reacts differently, and just because a friend’s curls hold perfectly with a satin ribbon doesn’t mean it will work for you. But once you’ve found „your“ method—girl, trust me, you’ll love it.
2. Oil Pulling & Tongue Cleaner
– sounds wild, but works
I know, I know. At first, this tip sounds like it’s from a completely different world. Oil pulling? Cleaning your tongue? Seriously? Yep—I mean, seriously. It’s a ritual that’s really old (it originally comes from Ayurveda) and is now celebrated by tons of celebrities. No wonder: it’s the most underrated self-care tool of all.
The idea is simple: in the morning, before you do anything else, you put a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for a few minutes. Sounds a bit gross, I admit. But it works wonders. It binds toxins, freshens your breath, and cleans your teeth. Then: spit it out (important: not in the sink, otherwise it’ll clog your pipes, trust me). And ideally, you’ll follow it up with a tongue cleaner. The small metal or plastic device, which looks like a miniature bow, frees your tongue of the deposits that otherwise cause bad breath.
Sounds like a lot of effort? Nope. It takes maybe five minutes, and the effect is insane. I’ve been doing it for a while, and I swear, you just feel so much fresher afterward. A whole other level of care that comes from within.
3. Body massage with wooden tools
– firm skin, we love it
Now comes my holy grail when it comes to body care: massages. Not in the sense of spa luxury (also nice, but who can manage that every week), but simply at home with small wooden tools. You’ve probably seen them before – those wooden massage devices that look like rollers or small blocks. That’s exactly what I mean.
What does it all do? It stimulates circulation, tightens the tissue, and makes the skin appear firmer. And yes, ladies, we simply have a harder time when it comes to firm skin. Our connective tissue is structured differently, and that’s why we have to work a little harder. But the good thing is: if you do it once a week, it’s enough. Combine it with a really good body lotion or oil, and you’ll notice the difference.
Immediately after the massage, the skin is so receptive – I feel like my creams work twice as well. Of course, it would be ideal to apply cream every day. But let’s be real: who can really manage that? So just apply it as often as possible, and especially after a massage. For me, that’s pure autumn care.
4. Skin Cycling
– small routine, big difference
While we’re on the subject of skin, here’s my extra tip for Glow-tober: skin cycling. You might have heard of it before – it’s quite trendy right now. The idea: you give your skin a set sequence of days with certain products so it can regenerate without being overwhelmed.
For example: Day 1, a peel (e.g., with AHA or BHA), Day 2, retinol, Days 3 and 4 just moisture and barrier care. Then start again. Sounds simple, and it is – and it makes so much sense. Because too much at once often just throws the skin out of balance. But in a rhythm? That’s when it really plays along.
The best part: you’ll see how your skin changes after just a few weeks. Smoother, more even, fewer breakouts. And that’s exactly what Glow-tober is all about: small, easy-to-follow routines that have a huge long-term impact.

5. Vitamins & Supplements
– your inner glow booster
Self-care doesn’t just mean caring for your skin and hair from the outside, but also from the inside. Especially now in autumn, when the days are getting shorter, sunlight is diminishing, and we’re feeling more tired, it’s worth supporting your body with the right vitamins and supplements.
My favorite is vitamin D—no wonder, we just don’t get enough sun anymore. A little boost of it often works wonders for energy and mood. Add omega-3 fatty acids for skin and hair, and zinc, which has really improved my complexion. If you add a good multivitamin or targeted supplements like magnesium (for less fatigue), you’re well-stocked.
Of course, this isn’t a substitute for a balanced diet—but let’s be honest, especially in fall and winter, we sometimes indulge in more comfort food. That’s why, for me, part of Glow-tober is giving my body what it needs with supplements to glow from within. Because a true glow doesn’t start on the surface of the skin, but deep beneath it.
Why Glow-tober?
Because it’s exactly the right time. In the summer, we’re all busy, and in December, it’s constant stress anyway. But October – there’s something magical about it. It’s that little oasis of calm before things get really hectic. And it’s the perfect invitation for you to bring more care into your life. Not with pressure, not with a thousand rules, but with small steps that bring joy.
Imagine: you’re sitting down to Christmas dinner in December, feeling great in your own skin, your hair falling perfectly, your complexion glowing, and you’re simply relaxed. That’s exactly the goal of Glow-tober. A month that prepares you for everything that’s to come.
my summary
My Glow-tober essence
Don’t stress, you don’t have to implement everything at once. Find the things that appeal to you, try them out, and create your own Glowtober program. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about doing something good for yourself. It’s about routines that strengthen you, about little hacks that make your life easier, about those moments when you simply feel beautiful.
Because in the end, that’s the real glow: not an Instagram filter, not a hyped product, but the feeling of being comfortable with yourself. And that’s exactly what I wish for you this Glow-tober.
So go ahead – make yourself comfortable, light some candles, put your phone away, and treat yourself to a little more TLC. Your December self will thank you.
