Kürbishof Wunderlich – amazing pumpkin wonderland

„Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower, and every pumpkin a lantern.“- Albert Camus; Kürbishof Wunderlich

It’s finally here – autumn.
That time of year when the world turns gold and copper, the light softens, and you feel like everything moves a little slower. And on just one of those perfect autumn days – sun, blue skies, a touch of wind making the leaves dance – my husband and I decided to take a little trip. Destination: Kürbishof Wunderlich in Stockerau.

I was recently told that it’s noticeable that I spend a lot of time with my husband, hahaha. And yes – that’s absolutely true. I’m one of those women who enjoys spending time with her husband. We love discovering new things together, traveling somewhere, eating good food, and having little adventures. That’s our thing. So yes, you’ll definitely hear (and read) plenty more about us in the future.

But let’s get to the real star of the day: the Kürbishof Wunderlich.

Arrival: easy & stress-free

The Kürbishof Wunderlich is located in Stockerau—not a world trip, but only about 30 minutes from Vienna city center. The perfect distance for a spontaneous weekend getaway.
Unlike our pumpkin adventure at Franzlbauer last year, this one was really easy to reach. No endless dirt roads, no hidden entrances—just turn off the highway, drive for five minutes, and you’re immersed in a little pumpkin wonderland.

a lot going on here

The grounds of the Kürbishof Wunderlich are huge. As soon as you arrive, you can tell there’s a lot going on here. Opposite the entrance, there’s a large parking lot in the middle of the field – and even attendants who kindly show you where to park. I love that! It sounds trivial, but little things like that make getting started stress-free.
After paying the entrance fee (a totally fair price, by the way), we set off – into the orange paradise.

Welcome to Pumpkin Wonderland

It was a whole experience.

I honestly underestimated how big the Kürbishof Wunderlich is. I thought it would be a small family farm with a few pumpkins, maybe a soup stand – but no. It was a whole experience.
From the entrance, there are autumnal decorations everywhere: hay bales, pumpkin pyramids, and attention to detail in every corner. It’s so thoughtfully designed that you discover something new with every step.

Of course, the Kürbishof Wunderlich is primarily a paradise for children—there are little stations, play areas, and attractions everywhere. But there’s plenty for adults to see (and snack on, too).
We just went with the flow at first. I prefer that to following a plan. That’s how you usually discover the most beautiful spots. And there are plenty of them here.

Photo spots wherever you look

looking for autumnal vibes

Anyone who knows me knows: If there’s a nice photo spot somewhere, I’ll find it.
And the Kürbishof Wunderlich is a true highlight for that. Whether you’re just looking for autumnal vibes or content for your Instagram feed, you’ll find both here.
There are small wooden houses, tractors decorated with pumpkins, piles of straw, old wheelbarrows full of colorful pumpkins – everything that makes you want to take a photo at every corner. And yes, of course, we didn’t hold back.

A special highlight were these wooden cows that you could „milk.“ Spoiler alert: We were both absolutely terrible at it. But hey, in theory, we knew exactly how it worked! 😂
In between, we treated ourselves to a pumpkin spice latte – because honestly, what would an autumn day be without this classic? Strolling through the grounds with one in hand while the sun shines through the trees… that was simply perfect.

A little discovery tour

with lots of fun

The longer we were there, the more I realized how well-thought-out the Kürbishof Wunderlich is.
There’s something new around every corner – and everything is designed with such attention to detail.
There’s even a small petting zoo, which you can reach via a short walk. Unfortunately, the area was cordoned off that day, presumably to protect the animals, as there were so many children there. But honestly, I thought that was a good thing – better a break for the animals than too much stress.

What I particularly liked was that you never felt like you were being „rushed through“ anywhere. You could take your time, stroll around, take photos, laugh, and simply enjoy yourself. Between all the stalls selling pumpkins, decorations, and little games, there was a pleasant sense of calm that you often miss in the city. In some corners, you could smell roasted almonds, in others, fresh corn on the cob—there was that sweet, warm scent of autumn in the air everywhere.
After our „exploration tour“ (and several photos later), we slowly moved on to the culinary part.

Snack break

– in a telephone hut

I love it when places are creative—and Kürbishof Wunderlich definitely has that.
You could order snacks from an old, converted telephone booth. No joke. You walk in, order with the push of a button, and seconds later, your food is ready. The staff was super friendly and totally on the ball.

I had a hot dog – classic, but really good. The roll was lightly toasted, the sausage nice and crispy, and the homemade sauce had just the right balance of sweet and spicy. My husband opted for a frankfurter – plain, but for him, nothing beats it. We then found a small table in the sun, turned our faces toward the light, and just took a quick breather. This break felt so good. It was one of those moments when everything comes together perfectly: good food, good weather, good company. That’s exactly what makes such trips so special for me.

Shopping with style

– and trolley

Of course, you can’t leave the Kürbishof Wunderlich without picking up some pumpkins.
And doing so is really convenient. There are small carts available for rent on the premises – super handy if you want to buy a lot of pumpkins or just transport your things. Many families pulled their children around in them, and it was kind of cute to watch.

The grounds themselves are huge and full of pumpkin stalls. There are decorative pumpkins in all shapes and colors—some so large they easily weighed three times as much as my head. Perfect for carving at home or placing on the front door as decoration.
But we were particularly interested in the edible pumpkins. I love trying new varieties and making them into soups, baked vegetables, or pasta.

A matter of taste

– in the truest sense

What I really liked about the Kürbishof Wunderlich was the presentation – everything was clear, clean, and beautifully arranged.
There were many different varieties, including some I’d never seen before.
However, I have to say: the selection of edible pumpkins could be a bit larger. I’m someone who likes to experiment – and I love discovering new varieties.

But that’s complaining at a high level, because we still did a fair bit of shopping. A Hokkaido squash (my absolute classic), a butternut squash, a nutmeg squash – and a few smaller ones that were just too pretty not to take home. And a few more whose names I’ve already forgotten.
I can hardly wait to make them all at home. Pumpkin soup with coconut milk, pumpkin risotto, maybe even pumpkin bread – autumn can definitely stay, culinary-wise.

What makes the Kürbishof Wunderlich special

There are many farms around Vienna that become real hotspots in the fall. But the Kürbishof Wunderlich has that certain something.
Perhaps it’s because everything is so relaxed – no stress, no crowds, just a great atmosphere. Families, couples, groups of friends – everyone enjoys the sun, the food, the ambiance.

What also struck me was the sheer amount of organization that went into this place. From the parking instructions to the small snack stations and the numerous seating areas – it all feels perfectly rounded.
I think it’s nice to see that a place is run with heart. Kürbishof Wunderlich has achieved just that: a place where you can briefly escape from everyday life, one that smells of hay, fresh baked goods, and a little bit of childhood.

my summary

The Kürbishof Wunderlich was a truly wonderful outing for us.
We went there with a smile on our faces and returned with our hands (and hearts) full. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was fantastic, and it was simply one of those days you’ll remember fondly.

So if you’re looking for autumn at its finest—with all that goes with it—then pack up your loved ones and head out to Stockerau.
Whether for families, groups of friends, or couples—Pumpkin Farm Wunderlich is a small, wonderful escape from everyday life.
I already know: This won’t be our last visit. And who knows—maybe we’ll see each other there next year among the pumpkins, pumpkin spice latte in hand, the sun on our faces, and a smile that says: Yes, this is autumn. 🍂🎃

A few more tips at the end

• It’s worth coming early! The Kürbishof Wunderlich fills up quickly when the weather is nice, especially on weekends.
• Wear comfortable shoes – the grounds are large, and you’ll want to see everything.
• Be sure to bring cash, in case some stalls don’t accept cards.
• Don’t forget your camera (or phone) – the photo spots are truly too beautiful not to capture.
• And of course, leave room in your trunk. Because trust me, you’ll drive home with more pumpkins than you planned.
