Maximus Resort – last minute wellness trip

„Being healthy is a success that many people forget to celebrate“; Maximus Resort

There are some trips you take not just for the location, but for the company. My last weekend with my mom at the Maximus Resort near Brno in the Czech Republic was just such a trip. A classic mother-daughter wellness vacation – before I head off to Ibiza soon (and I’ll probably see more Aperol than water there 🙃). But before we get to cocktails by the pool and endless sauna sessions, I have to tell you how the journey went. Spoiler alert: It was anything but relaxing.

Getting there

Google Maps vs. old-school navigation

I swear, the drive there was no picnic. The Maximus Resort is so beautifully hidden that you could almost call it a little treasure hunt. With Google Maps? No problem, easy peasy. With a car navigation system, which my mom adores? A complete disaster. She simply trusts her navigation system more than my phone, so we both sat in the car: me with Google Maps in hand, her with her device on the screen – and both of us seemed to be screaming at the same time, „Left here, no right, NO NOW!“

So, the journey was hectic, to sum it up. And I can tell you: By the time we finally arrived at the Maximus Resort, my heart rate was higher than after a HIIT workout. But hey, we made it – and when we first caught a glimpse of the surroundings, it was immediately clear: the stress had been worth it.

Location & first impressions

The Maximus Resort is nestled in the mountains, right next to a stunningly beautiful lake. And it’s precisely this blend—forest, tranquility, water—that makes it so special. As soon as you arrive, you feel like you’re in another world. No street noise, no crowds, just pure nature.
I found the parking lot to be typically Slavic: huge, packed to the last spot, and the cars parked as if everyone had been playing Tetris. Creativity in parking? Check. It wasn’t exactly a work of art, though—let’s call it „pragmatic.“

The hotel itself surprised me: The Maximus Resort is huge, and you can immediately tell that a lot of modernization has taken place here. Nevertheless, there are small, old-fashioned touches everywhere that immediately reminded me of old Czech and Slovak hotels from my childhood. A bit of nostalgia, a bit of retro charm—but not disturbing, more like something that makes you smile.

Our room

 – space for two women

Our room was completely renovated and modernly furnished – you can really feel the difference from the old days. Bright, friendly, everything new. And the best part: it was really big. Two women with suitcases, beauty cases, outfits for every occasion – we had plenty of room. There was also a small balcony where we sat every evening, ate, and chatted. For me, that’s always the best part of such vacations: coming back in the evening, a glass of aperol in hand, and just talking.

Breakfast

Slavic abundance and childhood memories

If there’s one thing my mom loves, it’s breakfast on vacation. For her, it’s almost a ritual—at least an hour of sitting, tasting, and chatting. At the Maximus Resort, there was everything your heart could desire: hearty, savory, sweet, healthy—simply everything. From scrambled eggs and spreads to a whole range of cakes and pastries. Typical Slavic: better a little too much than too little. Mom is in her element, grabbing plate after plate, while I’m already stuffed after the first croissant. My highlight? Absolutely: kasha.

This typical cereal dish instantly catapulted me back to my childhood. Warm, sweet, a little vanilla flavor—and suddenly I was ten years old again. Mom swears by fresh fruit, cheese, and coffee, preferably two cups. And she could literally stay there for hours, tasting everything, taking her time. I almost had to drag her away every time because we had other things to do. But that’s exactly what I love: these little holiday rituals that you only experience with your own mom.

The lake

– nature within reach

After breakfast, we walked straight down to the lake. Five minutes and you’re already at the water’s edge—that’s truly a luxury the Maximus Resort offers. The access road was closed off for a race, but that didn’t bother us. Quite the opposite: It was almost deserted, and we were able to truly soak up the peace and quiet. The water shimmered in the sun, a few boats bobbed in the distance, and the trees rustled gently above us. I love moments like these, when you can just lie there, gaze at nature, and completely forget everything else.

Mom immediately started throwing stones into the water, like she used to when I was little. I wanted to take a few steps into the water barefoot, but it was too cold. Green forests surrounded us, the perfect backdrop for a little escape. You can feel the energy this place gives. I could easily have stayed there all day, just sitting, watching, breathing – but the spa area was already waiting for us.

Wellness & Spa

– our main program

The rest of the day? Absolutely: wellness! The Maximus Resort has a huge spa area that’s open not only to hotel guests but also to day visitors.
My mom booked us both in for a massage. Fun fact: It was the first time she’d done something like that in 25 years. I was more than happy. She opted for a gentle massage, while I went for the hardcore version. My body creaked like an old piece of furniture for an hour – but afterward, everything was back in place.

Then we went to the sauna area. I swear, there were so many saunas I lost count. Easily ten. Mom isn’t a fan of saunas, and I haven’t quite dared to go in alone yet, but that will come.

Highlight number two: the pool. A large indoor pool that also leads outside. The atmosphere was great – everyone had a cocktail in their hand. And yes, you could drink them right there in the pool. I treated myself to a mojito, Mom to a piña colada – and we felt like queens.

Outdoor area

– pure relaxation

The real highlight for us, however, was the outdoor area of the Maximus Resort. We lounged in our bathrobes on swinging loungers, read books, enjoyed the nature—and of course, an Aperol Spritz was a must.

I was particularly impressed by the women’s changing room: free makeup remover, cotton pads, cotton buds, body lotion, hygiene products, and even a spin dryer for wet swimwear. Sorry, but Austria could really learn a thing or two from that. Hardly any spa at home offers this kind of service.

Dinner

– Czech cuisine at its best

That evening, we didn’t eat at the hotel, but drove five minutes to the harbor. Typical Czech cuisine was on the menu: the first evening, stew with dumplings and meat (also called svíčková), the second evening, duck with cabbage and dumplings. And, man, the portions were gigantic. Value for money? Unbelievable. While in Vienna, you’d feel like you’d have to take out half a loan for a glass of Aperol, here you get a lot for very little money.

We paid for almost everything in cash, the old-school way – my mom simply loves having the money right in her hand. And it’s always surprising when you hear the prices: 500 kroner sounds like a lot, but it’s only about €20. You quickly realize that you can still really enjoy yourself here without constantly having to watch your money.

my summary

our mother-daughter trip to the Maximus Resort

The weekend at Maximus Resort was exactly what we needed: quality time, relaxation, good food, and a little break from everyday life. I loved chatting with my mom, eating together, and just unwinding.
Of course, not everything was perfect—the journey there was nerve-wracking and the parking situation was chaotic—but that’s exactly what makes trips like this truly authentic and unforgettable.

So if you’re looking for a short break that’s not too far away, with a real wellness experience, a fantastic location, and Slavic charm, I highly recommend the Maximus Resort.
And now? I’m counting down the days until I head off to Ibiza. But this mother-daughter trip to the Maximus Resort will stay with me for a long time. 💛
