„The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.“- Saint Augustine, Minimundus
Okay, honestly: I had no idea Minimundus even existed. I’d never even heard of it. My husband, on the other hand? He went there as a child, but he only vaguely remembers it – somewhere between the miniature train and the miniature St. Peter’s Basilica.
And so it happened that on the last day of our Wörthersee trip, we just spontaneously went there. We hadn’t planned anything, the weather was gorgeous (aka 32 degrees in the shade, help), and we thought: Why not?
What can I say – I thought it was really cute. And much more interesting than I expected.
Mini world, great heat & my sacred fan
Minimundus consists of a huge outdoor area, where everything revolves around miniature models, and an air-conditioned indoor area with interactive stations – the best of both worlds.
Only, it was so hot that day that even the shade was sweating. Luckily, there are hydration stations everywhere in the park, and – quite honestly – I wouldn’t have survived without my sacred fan. This thing has become my most faithful summer companion. Handbag-sized, life-saving, stylish – what more could you want

World Wonders & Surprises
“ … added to my personal travel list “
What really fascinated me about Minimundus was the mix. Sure, you’ll find all the famous Wonders of the World in miniature: the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, the Statue of Liberty, St. Peter’s Basilica—everything a little wanderlust enthusiast could desire.
But then there are also a lot of buildings from Austria and Germany that I’d never heard of in my life. And I don’t mean that in a negative way—quite the opposite. I love discovering new places. I immediately jotted down a few that I’ve now added to my personal travel list. It’s a bit like Google Maps, but analog and with more charm.
And the best part: When you suddenly stand in front of a miniature building and think to yourself, „Wait a minute—I’ve already been there!“ I love moments like that. It’s like a little, silent high-five with your own wanderlust. And somehow comforting when you realize, „Hey, I’ve seen some really beautiful places.“

My favorite moments?
These three are definitely:
1. The Great Wall of China (selfie spot included)
Indoors, there’s a selfie spot with a miniature version of the Great Wall of China – and yes, of course, my husband and I took a photo there. Sweaty, slightly disheveled, but happy. The picture isn’t perfect, but that’s exactly why I love it. It reminds me how fun spontaneous decisions can be.

2. The Tower Bridge in London
I’m standing there, looking at the mini-Tower Bridge – and what do I do? Exactly. I send my best friend a photo with the caption: „Just in London for a minute, sorry.“
He took it in good humor. And me? For a moment, I had that London feeling again. Only without the stress of flying and wet shoes.

3. Neuschwanstein Castle
One of my personal highlights. I love this fairytale castle and said to my husband, „We absolutely have to go there. In real life.“
The model alone was impressive – and I’m sure the real thing will completely blow me away. Road trip already loading…

What else awaits you
If you’re thinking, „Is this more for kids?“ – nope. I think Minimundus has something for every age group. It’s playful, but not kitschy. Informative, but not didactic. And you can decide for yourself whether you just want to stroll through leisurely or linger at each information panel.
The indoor area is great, by the way, if you need a little break from the heat or are traveling with children. There’s a 4D cinema, interactive games, miniature cars, and even a small drawing station. I stayed out of most of the things (except for the photo spot, of course!), but everything seems well thought out and lovingly done.
And something else I definitely want to mention: The park is well maintained. The paths are clean, the plants are beautifully arranged, the models are in great condition – you can tell that a lot of heart and soul has gone into the work here.

my summary
Went there spontaneously – and were completely thrilled
I really went there without any great expectations. And that was perhaps the best part. Minimundus isn’t a place you see on every Instagram feed – but that’s precisely why it seems so real, so charming, and somehow soothing.
You walk among miniature landmarks, drink a cold water, fan the hot air from your face, and think to yourself: How sweet is all of this?!
For me, it was the perfect end to our Wörthersee trip – and who knows, maybe even the beginning of a few new (real) trips. My bucket list has definitely gotten a little longer.
xoxo,
Vanessa
