Momoya Fusion – simple delicious asian cuisine

„Chinese food tries to engage the mind, not just the plate. To provoke the intellect.“ – Nicole Mones, Momoya Fusion

Last weekend, I went to Momoya Fusion for the first time – with my family. We wanted to go out to eat together again, nothing fancy, just a nice lunch in the city. Somewhere comfortable, where you can have a normal conversation, and the food is just right. My husband recommended Momoya to me – modern Japanese, right in the 1st district, so perfectly accessible for all of us.

The restaurant is centrally located, just a few steps from Stephansplatz, yet still a bit hidden away—not in the middle of the hustle and bustle, but rather quiet. For the Viennese among you: it’s directly across from the Ronacher Theater. Upon walking in, my first thought was: beautifully minimalist. The decor is modern, but not cold; rather understated, with lots of wood and clean lines. There’s nothing loud about it, no grand concept that immediately jumps out at you—and that, somehow, worked perfectly.

The feeling

We were greeted warmly and shown to our table. I had made a reservation in advance, just to be on the safe side, and that was a good thing – it was busy for a Sunday. The atmosphere at Momoya Fusion was pleasantly quiet. There was enough going on that it didn’t feel empty, but you could still have a normal conversation. No overly loud music, no hustle and bustle, just a pleasant background noise.

“ The selection is straightforward  „

Since it was our first time there, we explored the menu a bit. The selection is straightforward, which I personally find pleasant. There are various types of sushi, a few hot dishes, and smaller plates, and the whole thing is a mix of classic and modern. The menu isn’t overloaded, but rather feels well-curated.

The food

We simply ordered a wide variety of dishes—each of us had what we fancied at Momoya Fusion. For starters, we had the Yaki Gyoza, grilled dumplings filled with chicken and vegetables. We also had a miso soup and the Salmon Tartare, consisting of salmon, tobiko (air-flight caviar), avocado, and truffle oil. For main course, I tried the „Dancing Prawn Roll,“ consisting of tempura prawns, salmon, avocado, and spicy mayo. We also ordered the Crispy Duck, and it was really crispy. Very tasty.

In general, I think the decoration and presentation of the appetizers and sushi are cute. The „fog“ gives the whole thing a bit of a mystical feel, but I’m not sure if I’m a big fan of having inedible food on my plate. That’s a matter of taste, of course, but I personally only like edible things on my plate.

My Summary

The drink selection at Momoya Fusion was also appropriate. Nothing over the top, but a few nice options – I had a house-made cocktail, and it was very tasty and visually appealing. Everything was well-balanced, nothing over the top, nothing under the top.

I would definitely do it again—maybe just the two of us next time, maybe with the whole family again. It’s not a place that shouts, „Look how special I am,“ but maybe that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s perfect if you want to enjoy uncomplicated Asian food without a lot of noise and tourists. When it stays warm, the large terrace outside also opens.

OVERALL Conclusion

Central location in the 1st district
Modern, quiet, family-friendly
Friendly, unfussy service
Fresh, thoughtful food
Great for a relaxed dinner with the family
