„There´s a famous slogan here in the Bavarian dialect: „Mia san mia!“, it is „We are. we“.“, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Munich
There are trips that don’t feel like a vacation, but more like a weekend with an old friend. Munich is exactly that kind of city for me. Elegant, a little snobby—but in the best possible way—and yet so charming that you immediately feel welcome. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary here from Wednesday to Friday. A small, lovely trip just for the two of us. And because I know you love these personal city recaps as much as I love writing them, here’s my Munich diary—with everything that goes with it: sweating in the thermal baths, calories in the Hofbräuhaus, shopping confessions, and cappuccinos with a view of the Residenz.

25hours Hotel Munich
Urban Jungle in the heart of the city
I’m a fan of hotels that are a little more than just a „bed and shower.“ The 25hours Hotel in Munich was exactly that – colorful, playful, a little crazy, and yet incredibly cozy. Our room had a charming cabin feel, almost like a small mountain lodge in the middle of the city. Wood, fabrics, a touch of nostalgia, but all with a certain wink.
The absolute highlight? The bed. So high that we literally had to jump onto it. I’m not exaggerating – it was a mini-workout before bed. Our room faced the courtyard, which might not sound particularly exciting at first, but honestly: perfect. This meant we had absolute peace and quiet at night, no street noise, no partygoers – just us, the buzz of the city in the background, and a damn good bed.

Therme Erding
– my personal spa paradise
I know this sounds cheesy, but for me, this thermal spa is truly like a mini-vacation within a vacation. As soon as I walk through the entrance of Therme Erding, my whole body feels like, „Okay, we’re back. Relax mode ON.“ And because we planned cleverly, we were there on Wednesday and Thursday. Two full days of palm trees, steam baths, cocktails at the pool bar, and endless infusions.
The sauna area is my personal favorite. Whether it’s the kelo sauna, the tropical hut, or the oriental hammam—I could spend days moving from one station to the next. And the best part: It’s big enough that it never feels crowded, even with more visitors. My husband and I completely unwinded on both days. No emails, no to-dos—just water, warmth, and plenty of time together. You really should treat yourself to that more often.
Therme Erding, I’ll keep coming back. I promise.
Hofbräuhaus
Cliché? Yes. It’s still a must-try.
On our first evening, we wanted something classic. And I mean really classic. So: Hofbräuhaus. I haven’t been there in ages – and yes, it’s loud, touristy, and kind of over the top. But that’s exactly what makes it so appealing. The atmosphere? Incomparable. The liter of beer? Cold. The pretzels? Large. And the waiters? So typically grumpy, Bavarian, it’s almost charming.
Naturally, I immediately treated myself to a roast pork – with extra gravy. And my husband went for the knuckle of pork. If you’re going to do it, do it right. It was loud, fun, and we honestly spent an hour just people-watching. I’m always amazed at how much fun you can have in such a cliché-ridden restaurant. And I’ll tell you the truth: I’d do it again.

Hugos
Hip, loud, good. Period.
On Thursday evening, Hugos was the place to be – one of Munich’s hippest spots, where you’re never overdressed, but definitely not underdressed either. We’ve been there a few times, and I love the mix of a cool location, a stylish crowd, and simply good food without any unnecessary frills.
I had tagliatelle with truffles (because… truffles!), and my husband had a pizza that was definitely not boring. We were actually planning on finishing the evening, but since there was an event going on and we were honestly a bit worn out from the whole day at the thermal baths, we just ate quietly and then headed back to the hotel. Sometimes that’s exactly the best decision.

Shopping in the city center
– my personal obligatory exercise
I know, I know. I always say, „Just looking around.“ And every time… well, you know me. Munich is simply shopping heaven—and I’m a self-confessed shopaholic. But I own it, okay?
First stop: the Lush store. Guys, the selection of bath bombs there is at least three times as large as in Vienna. I’ve replenished my collection again—no idea when I’ll use it all up, but just choosing is a joy.

Then—of course—H&M. And yes, I found what I was looking for. A few new workout clothes went into my bag because: I started working out properly again (more on that soon, I promise!). The new leggings practically scream „Let’s go!“

And last but not least—Sephora. Because it seems to be in every country except Austria. I find it incredibly sad every time. But hey, at least my trip to Munich has restocked my beauty supplies.

Breakfast at Cotidiano
Good Morning Goals
Friday morning, our last day. The sun was shining, we’d had a good night’s sleep—time for breakfast. The Cotidiano was our choice, and I can only say: 10/10. Modern, friendly, with just the right balance of „I’m ordering everything right now“ and „Oh God, how am I ever going to decide?“
I opted for the Avocado Toast Deluxe: toasted sourdough bread with avocado, smoked salmon, and two perfectly cooked fried eggs – exactly my thing. My husband had the Strammer Max, served on a sesame bagel with farmer’s ham, mustard, and various crunchy vegetables. Hearty, filling, and simply delicious.
We treated ourselves to a little energy boost with our cappuccino – freshly squeezed orange juice for him and a Passion Aperol Spritz for me. Because you can never start too early with a little glamour in your glass, right?

Walk to the residence
take a deep breath please
After breakfast, we strolled through the city a bit – without a destination, without any time pressure. Just drifting through the streets, looking, marveling, and being silent. I love moments like these, especially in places I already know, but discover anew each time.
Our path led us to the Residenz – majestic as always. The Hofgarten was tranquil, the air warm, and we simply sat on a bench and gave the moment a little space. It was the perfect end to a trip that was just the right mix of adventure and relaxation.

my summary
Munich, we’ll be back – very soon!
Our first wedding anniversary was exactly as we had hoped: relaxed, full of enjoyment, with little highlights and lots of love. Munich was the perfect setting. This city simply manages to combine urban chic with Bavarian coziness – and conveys such a sense of life that you’ll want to stay.
I’m already looking forward to our next trip. Who knows – maybe around Christmas? With mulled wine, fairy lights, and a new pair of winter boots (yes, I know…). Until then, I say: Thank you, Munich. You were beautiful.
