New York Outfits – strolling stylish through the city

Some trips simply deserve their own fashion blog post. And New York was exactly that kind of trip.

Not just because I wore so many outfits—but because my style somehow automatically changed there. Maybe you know that feeling: You arrive in a city and suddenly you want to feel a bit like that city. And somehow, that’s exactly how I felt in New York. A little cooler. A little more laid-back. But still me.

Before the trip, my main priority was packing looks that I could mix and match. I didn’t want a suitcase full of „one-time-wear“ pieces, but rather outfits that could easily be changed for day and night. Especially since we were going to be out and about a lot, and I knew: this New York outfit had to look great, but also survive 20,000 steps.

Little plot twist: I packed for 20-25 degrees Celsius (68-77 degrees Fahrenheit). What I got was more than 30+ degrees Celsius (more than 90+ degrees Fahrenheit) and a heatwave. But honestly? Somehow it still worked out. And looking back at my outfits now, I notice something funny: during the day, my looks were much softer, girlier, and more relaxed—in the evening, everything automatically became a bit cooler, more elegant, and more Manhattan-esque.

day 1

– Cool Girl Arrival Energy

The first day was actually the coolest weather-wise – and that’s exactly why I wanted to start my first New York outfit in a really cool way.

Not too excited. Not too touristy. Just effortless. I wore loose-fitting wide-leg gray pants, a fitted white top, and a light brown cardigan. And I have to say: It was truly the perfect start. Relaxed enough to feel settled in.

But still with that feeling of: Okay, we’re really in New York now.

I wore my beige sneakers – which were honestly probably the MVP of this trip – and my hair down. And my bag? It went with literally every outfit. Not just because I love it, but because it was just so practical. Especially in a city like New York, where you’re really on the go all day, you need a bag that looks good and can handle anything.

This New York outfit was exactly what I wanted to be on the first day: Cool. Relaxed. And ready for Manhattan.

Evening Look Day 1

– Leather Jacket & Main Character Mood

The vibe definitely got a bit cooler in the evening.

I love dressing more casually during the day and then automatically adding a bit more drama to my look in the evening. For this New York outfit, I wore black leggings, a fitted long-sleeved white top, and my oversized brown leather jacket.

And guys. I love this jacket. Seriously. It instantly makes every outfit ten times cooler. This look just felt right, especially in New York. A little edgy. A little casual. And totally city girl. It was one of those days when you look in the mirror and think: Yes. This is exactly how I wanted to look here.

day 2

– Heatwave but make it cute

And then the heat slowly arrived. A lot of heat. Too much heat. That day, my New York outfit automatically became more summery. I opted for my black capri pants, a black halter top with white polka dots, and black ballet flats.

And I have to say: I loved this look. Very girly. Very trendy. And somehow, very „me.“ This time, I had my hair half-tied back with a hair clip—which not only looked cute but was honestly necessary in this heat. It was the kind of outfit that made me feel really comfortable walking around.

Not overdressed. Not underdressed.

But just right for hours of city strolling. And yes—this New York outfit definitely had Soho girl energy, even though we didn’t get there until later.

Evening look day 2

– Skims, Times Square & cooler than expected

In the evening, I went to Times Square.

And if I was going to Times Square, I wanted a cool outfit. I wore my new black bodysuit from Skims. And I’ll be honest: The best bodysuits on the market. Seriously. I totally get the hype. I paired it with elegant black baggy trousers and my black ballet flats.

My hair was in a low ponytail this time. Done. This look didn’t need anything more. This New York outfit just felt incredibly cool. Minimalist. Elegant. And somehow perfectly suited to that crazy skyline. While lights were flashing everywhere and crowds of people were milling about, I suddenly felt like I was in a movie. And I think that’s exactly why I love fashion when I travel.

An outfit can suddenly convey a whole feeling.

day 3

– Too hot for anything but clothes

By day three, it was clear:

This weather app had lied to us. Completely.

Because, to be honest, I was expecting spring weather—not 35 degrees Celsius in the middle of May. So my New York outfit automatically became more airy. I wore a white midi dress with black polka dots and my beige sneakers.

My hair was in a high ponytail this time. And guys. That wasn’t a fashion decision anymore. That was pure survival. It was SO hot. But I still absolutely loved this look Very feminine. Very relaxed. And at the same time, practical enough to get back to walking tens of thousands of steps. That’s exactly what I tried to do with every New York outfit: Look cute without suffering completely.

Evening look day 3

– satin, corset & a touch of drama

In the evenings, things became more elegant again.

And I really loved that change of pace about the trip. Comfy during the day. Chic in the evening. I wore a long black satin skirt, a black corset, and my black ballet flats. My hair was down with a black headband. Very Gossip Girl. Very Manhattan dinner vibe. And honestly?

I think this New York outfit was definitely one of my most elegant of the entire trip. Not too much. But still special. I love that mix.

day 4

– Soho Girl Era

And then came Soho. My favorite fashion day.

Somehow, everything there just felt more stylish. My New York outfit that day was extremely feminine. A cream-colored satin midi skirt and a cream-colored halter top with brown polka dots. I had my hair pulled back halfway with a hair clip. Very girly. Very soft. And somehow just perfect for Soho. When I see pictures of this look today, I immediately think: Yes. That was truly very strolling through the city. And probably one of the looks that felt most like me.

Especially in Soho, this outfit just felt completely right. Among the charming streets, the cool cafes, and all the beautiful stores, I somehow had that typical cool girl-in-New York feeling. Not too dressy, not too casual—but exactly that mix of feminine, relaxed, and yet stylish.

evening look day 4

– Dinner in Satin

In the evening, we went out for a fancy dinner. And that meant: Finally, high heels.

For the first time on this trip. And honestly? Huge respect to everyone who wears heels every day in New York. I would have died. For this New York outfit, I wore black patent leather pumps and a brown midi-length satin dress with lace details.

And I have to say: I felt really beautiful in it. Elegant. Feminine. And yet not too much. That’s exactly how I imagine a dinner look in Manhattan.

day 5

– 20k Steps approved

On my second-to-last day, I opted for my black capri pants again. Because: Comfort first.

This time, I paired them with a light blue top I’d bought at Aritzia. And sneakers again. And that was it—my New York outfit for another day of walking. And if I’ve learned one thing: Cute shoes are useless in New York if you can’t walk by the end.

Sneakers supremacy. Seriously. Especially on this day, when we felt like we were on the go nonstop, I was really glad I’d made that decision. You completely underestimate how much you actually walk in New York. This New York outfit might not have been the fanciest—but it was definitely one of the most practical and comfortable of the entire trip.

evening look day 5

– Last Night Energy

In the evening, I wanted to wear something a little nicer.

I chose a short white dress and paired it with beige ballet flats. Simple. Elegant. And somehow just perfect for the last evening. This New York outfit had a kind of farewell vibe for me. Do you know that feeling when you can tell something is slowly coming to an end? Exactly.

Somehow, I consciously wanted to wear something that evening that made me feel really beautiful—not overdressed, but still special. Just to soak up that last special atmosphere, walk through the streets, and consciously enjoy the evening. This New York outfit had something light about it, almost summery—just right for a last night in the city.

day 6

– Just be New York again

On my last day, I wanted to wear something that truly felt like me. So I paired my black bodysuit with the black satin skirt. Simple. Timeless. Easy.

And somehow, exactly the right New York outfit for one last stroll through the city. One more time on Fifth Avenue. One more time in Central Park. One more time that feeling of: „Okay, I don’t really want to leave yet.“

At the same time, this look was also exactly what I love about my style. Nothing completely new or crazy—just pieces that I simply feel comfortable in and that still look chic. Especially on my last day, I didn’t want to feel like I was in costume, but simply be myself one last time. And that’s precisely why this New York outfit felt like a beautiful finale. Almost like consciously saying goodbye to the city one last time.

My fashion conclusion

about New York

Looking at my outfits now, something immediately strikes me:

During the day, my looks were much girlier. Lighter. More playful. And in the evenings, automatically more elegant, cooler, and a bit more Manhattan. And somehow, I love that contrast. I honestly can’t say which New York outfit was my favorite. Each one had its own moment. It’s own vibe. And that’s exactly why I love fashion while traveling so much.

Because outfits suddenly become memories. And when I see my pictures today, I don’t think about the dress or the shoes first. But about Soho. The heat. The skyline. The feeling of walking through that city. And that’s precisely why New York will probably always remain a little fashion chapter in my mind.
