„Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.“ – Joseph Pilates; Reflow Vienna
Sometimes you come across places that make you feel, the moment you step inside, as if you’ve been transported to another world—places where, for a brief moment, you forget you are actually still in Vienna. That is exactly how I felt at reflow Vienna.
I don’t know about you, but I have a soft spot for stately buildings—high ceilings, elegant facades, historic architecture, and all those places that exude the charm of a bygone era. Perhaps it’s because my inner princess never quite disappeared. Or maybe it’s because, even as a child, I preferred visiting castles to amusement parks.
When I first stood in front of reflow Vienna, I had to pause for a moment. After all, the studio is located in Vienna’s 19th District, in a building that looks almost like a small Baroque pleasure palace. The bright façade, the beautiful cast-iron gate, the well-kept grounds, and the understated garden furniture out front captivated me immediately. Everything felt so peaceful. So elegant. So untypically and at the same time typically Viennese. And that is precisely why I fell in love with it from the very first moment.
Welcome to the most beautiful
Pilates studio in Vienna
As soon as you step into reflow Vienna, you notice that a lot of emphasis is placed on atmosphere.
The entrance area doubles as a small café—a combination I personally love. After all, let’s be honest: anyone who practices Pilates regularly knows there’s a good chance you’ll want a coffee, a matcha, or at least a little something to eat afterward. I was warmly welcomed right at the entrance. They explained where everything was and how the studio was laid out. Then, I was free to look around on my own. And, of course, that is exactly what I did.
If I had to describe the style of reflow Vienna, I would say:
Grandeur meets Scandinavian minimalism. A combination that works surprisingly well. Everything feels high-quality, yet not ostentatious. Elegant, but not cluttered. Modern, yet cozy. It is actually exactly my own personal interior design style. As I walked through the rooms, I found myself smiling several times because so much of it reminded me of my own apartment. At home, too, classic elements meet modern shapes and warm colors meet clean lines—and it is precisely this blend that creates that timeless feel. At reflow Vienna, this concept has been executed to perfection. Nothing feels random. Nothing feels cluttered. Everything feels well-considered. And that is often what makes the difference.
The cloakroom
no one talks about
As is the case with almost every Pilates studio in Vienna, you take off your street shoes at reflow Vienna. The changing area is located on the lower level.
Normally, I probably wouldn’t write a whole paragraph about a changing area. But this one deserves it. The design concept carries through consistently across the entire studio, starting right as you head downstairs. There are beautiful wooden lockers that perfectly match the studio’s style. In the center sits a modern green couch that looks like it stepped straight out of an interior design magazine. Add to that large mirrors, two sinks, and plenty of space to get ready before or after class. Naturally, there are showers and restrooms, too.
But what really stood out to me were the little details. Hairspray. Deodorant. Feminine hygiene products. Skincare products. And yes—even a Dyson. To some, these might seem like trifles. To me, these are the things that really matter. Because details like these show that someone has genuinely thought about what guests might need. Of course, you shouldn’t overdo it.
But striking the right balance is an art. And in my opinion, reflow Vienna has found exactly that balance.
Small, exclusive
and incredibly beautiful
My Pilates class took place in the room on the ground floor.
I was a bit surprised when I first entered the room. After all, there is only space for six reformers. By Vienna standards, that is rather few. Many studios now work with significantly larger groups. But the more I thought about it, the more logical it seemed. After all, reflow Vienna is located in a historic building. The room layout is dictated by the architecture. And honestly, that is exactly what gives it its charm.
The atmosphere feels much more personal as a result. Calmer. More exclusive. Almost private.
Anyone who knows me knows I have a thing for aesthetics. I love beautiful cafés. I love beautiful restaurants. I love beautiful hotels. And I love beautiful Pilates studios. At reflow Vienna, real attention was paid to every detail. The reformers. The weights. The balls. The ankle weights. Everything was color-coordinated. Nothing felt random.
Even the smallest accessories matched the studio’s color scheme. That might sound a bit crazy. But it’s exactly those kinds of things that make a place feel high-end. You can simply tell when someone has put real thought into it.
Why I never voluntarily
stand in the front row
My spot that morning was further toward the back. And there were two reasons for that. First, to be honest, I was still pretty wiped out from the night before. (see the blogpost)
Second, whenever I visit a new Pilates studio, I generally prefer to head to the back. I like to observe first. I watch how the instructors teach. What the group dynamic is like. How the pace is built up. And only when I feel comfortable am I ready for the front row. You might recognize that feeling. You want to get your bearings first. And that’s exactly how I felt that morning.
Anna led the class that day.
And once again, I realized just how varied Pilates can be. Of course, there are fundamental principles. Naturally, many exercises are similar. Yet, every studio develops its own style. And every instructor has their own way of teaching, too. That is precisely why I think it is so important to try out different studios.
Sometimes a studio is a perfect fit, but the instructor isn’t. Sometimes it’s the other way around. And sometimes, you find that exact combination that completely wins you over. The class started off relatively gently. At least, that’s what I thought. A big mistake on my part. Because eventually, the real burners kicked in. And they absolutely wrecked me.
Four burners later
my life was over
Anyone who does Pilates regularly knows them. Those infamous final seconds. When you think the exercise is just about over. And then the instructor says:
“Ten more seconds.”
The classic burner. Usually, there’s just one. Maybe two. At reflow Vienna, it felt like four. Per exercise. At least, that’s how it felt. My legs were shaking. My muscles were burning. And at some point, I had to start laughing. Because I didn’t even know how my legs were still functioning. It was one of those classes where you suffer and feel happy at the same time. One of those classes where you ask yourself why you’re voluntarily putting yourself through this.
And five minutes later, you want to come right back.
After the class, I was completely wiped out. Truly wiped out. But at the same time, I was buzzing with endorphins. That feeling after a good workout is hard to describe. You feel stronger. Lighter. More balanced. As if you’ve done something good for your body. That’s exactly why I love Pilates so much. It’s not just about movement. It’s about body awareness. About control. About strength. About the connection between body and mind.
And that is exactly the feeling I took away from the class at reflow Vienna.
The mango matcha
of a lifetime
Usually, I head straight home after my workout. Not this time.
After all, when a café looks that lovely, you simply have to stay. So, after my Pilates class, I ordered an iced mango matcha latte. And yes. It was just as good as it looked. Fruity. Refreshing. Perfect for a warm morning in Vienna.
While sitting there, I took a look at the display case. There were various snacks, energy balls, and other little treats. I briefly considered ordering something. But, to be honest, I was so wiped out that I knew my body wouldn’t want to eat anything right then anyway. Still, everything looked incredibly good.
This might sound absurd.
But even the cup was beautiful. And that is exactly what I mean by attention to detail. At reflow Vienna, it wasn’t just the studio that was designed. An entire experience was created. From the entrance area and the changing room to the café. Everything feels cohesive. Nothing feels random. And that is precisely what creates this special feeling.
my summary
The moment I had to call my husband
I had to laugh on my way home. Because I actually called my husband. And my first sentence was:
„We have to move back to the 19th District.“
Of course, I didn’t mean it entirely seriously. Or perhaps a little bit, after all. Because every time I’m in the 19th District, I ask myself again why the area is so incredibly beautiful. The stately villas. The quiet streets. The abundance of green spaces. And now, reflow Vienna, too. It really is a world of its own.
If you ask me, reflow Vienna is definitely one of the most beautiful Pilates studios in Vienna. Not just because of the architecture. Not just because of the design. Not just because of the café. But because of the entire experience. You feel welcome from the very first minute. You can sense the attention to detail. You realize that this isn’t just another gym that’s opened up. A space has been created here. A place where movement, aesthetics, and well-being come together. Anyone who loves Pilates should definitely give reflow Vienna a try.
And for those who haven’t yet connected with Pilates, this might just be the place where that changes. I, for one, will be coming back. If only for the mango matcha latte. And perhaps also for the „four burners“ that are still haunting me.
