Salt & Honey – normal was never an option

„It´s salt. Why don´t you springkle some on me, honey? Aren´t I just good enough to eat?“- Grant Morrison, Salt & Honey

Vienna is known for its traditional cuisine, but sometimes you discover a gem you’d rather keep to yourself – Salt & Honey is one such gem. The name isn’t just a lovely play on words, but also a promise: Here, it’s all about the perfect balance between sweet and salty flavors – a concept that runs throughout the menu.

Located in Vienna’s 7th district, the restaurant is a newly opened establishment belonging to the adjacent hotel. From the outside, Salt & Honey stands out from the other buildings in the area. The facade is smooth, rather untypical for buildings in the city center. While it does have a certain structure, it is otherwise simply decorated in beige or other ornaments. Only the black logo stands out.

First impression

As soon as you enter, it’s immediately apparent that great attention has been paid to design. The mix of modern materials like microcement and warm wood elements creates an atmosphere that feels both urban and cozy. The various seating areas are pleasantly separated from each other – perfect for a relaxed conversation without being disturbed by background noise.

“ … fluffy teddy bear. „

As a construction engineer, I found the ceiling particularly funny. Of course, I know how it was made and what material it was made of, but I still immediately thought of a sheep or a fluffy teddy bear. And then there are the lamps that look like airy clouds. Funny!
The crowd? An exciting mix of regulars, foodies, and curious first-time visitors looking for a new favorite spot.

the food

Those who enjoy long breakfast sessions will be happy here. The selection is deliberately limited, but the food is really good. There’s a breakfast buffet with everything your heart desires – from fine smoked salmon to homemade spreads. Plus: a dedicated muesli station where you can create your perfect mix.

If a buffet isn’t your thing, the à la carte selection is also impressive. And that’s exactly what we ordered. For a gentle start to the morning, I ordered a Truffle Croissant. A croissant filled with truffle scrambled eggs and beetroot gravlax. Then we ordered the Green Shakshukka. Consisting of spinach, peppers, spices, and eggs – served with toasted bread. And to finish, we ordered the Grand Avocado Toast. It was a real eye-catcher!

-It might sound simple to some, but it tastes and looks like a lot of attention to detail.

my summary

Whether for a leisurely breakfast, a relaxed lunch, or a stylish dinner – Salt&Honey is perfect for almost any occasion. It’s chic without being stuffy, creative without being overly fancy, and the taste is simply spot-on. I was definitely pleasantly surprised from the very first second to find such a gem in Vienna. And I hope you like it as much as I do.

Salt & Honey hasn’t been open long, so everything is still new. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Visually, it fits the soft Scandi style that’s becoming so common these days, I’d say. The food was truly sophisticated and delicious. You do have to wait longer for the croissant than for the other dishes, but once you see it, everything is forgotten. A fun tip from me about the drinks: the Salt & Honey spritz is non-alcoholic.

OVERALL Conclusion
